William Gruner and Erik Erhardt began today as graduate RA's in the MIA Lab.

12/1/08 - 12-3-08

The Mind Research Network and the University of New Mexicoare pleased to announce the next upcoming fMRI Image Acquisition and Analyses course to be held December 1-3, 2008 at the Mind Research Network on the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. The course will include overview of both SPM2 and SPM5.

9/8/08 - Tom Eichele's Work Featured in Scientific American Journal

An article in Scientific American describing the physiological effects in the brain when someone makes a mistake shows a figure from Tom Eichele's work "Make a Mindless Goof? Blame Your Brain" related to this subject.

8/4/08 - THE MRN fMRI COURSE

The Mind Research Network and the University of New Mexico are pleased to announce the next upcoming fMRI Image Acquisition and Analyses course to be held August 4th-6th, 2008 at the Mind Research Network on the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. The course will include overview of both SPM2 and SPM5.

7/22/08 - Dr. Zikuan Chen joins MIA Lab

Dr. Zikuan Chen began today as a postdoc in the MIA Lab.

4/22/08 - The NY Times -

"Make a Mindless Goof? Blame Your Brain" - features MRN Researcher Vince Calhoun and Tom Eichle of the University of Bergen.

7/14/08 - Rogers Silva received funding from the UNM Graduate & Professional Students Association to attend the UCLA Mathematics in Brain Imaging Course.

7/1/08 - Several MIALAB members (Rogers Silva, Andrew Michael, Unal Sakoglu) attended a "Summer School: Mathematics in Brain Imaging" at UCLA for 2 weeks of July.

Several renowned researches lectured in the course, including Dr. Calhoun. For additional information on this course, please check: https://www.ipam.ucla.edu/programs/mbi2008/

7/25/08 - ISMRM has selected Dr. Calhoun's course on "Independent Component Analysis of BOLD fMRI Data" for their Global Outreach Program:

"ISMRM is developing a global outreach educational program, to be implemented via online courses offered at the Society website. The Education Committee has been reviewing our archived educational courses given over the last few years in conjunction with the Annual Meeting, with the objective of developing several integrated courses using the very best educational lectures delivered by our most effective speakers. I believe that a weekend course talk you gave would be an excellent component of our planned online fMRI course."

6/16/08 - Nathan Swanson, Research Engineer working with Dr. Vince Calhoun

5/5/08 - Ravi Kalyanam as a Software Engineer I working for Dr. Vince Calhoun.

4/28/08 - Tom Eichele and Vince Calhoun Publish "Prediction of human errors by maladaptative changes in event-related brain networks"

4/24/08 - MRN Research Day (and pizza), 12-2pm.

There is a lot of nice work being done at MRN and we need to share this across groups! The MIALab hosted an MRN Research Day on April 24th, from 12-2pm. We invited anyone who has a poster from a conference they presented over the past year, or one that is going to be presented soon (e.g. CNS, ISMRM coming up first week of May, etc.). We had places to hang up posters and discuss the work that's been ongoing here.

3/31/08 - Congrats to Lai, Dr. Calhoun's student...

Once again, we have terrific interdisciplinary representation at Biology's Annual Research Day. This year, Ziya Kalay (Physics, major advisor Nitant Kenkre), Helen Davis (Anthropology, Major advisor, Hilly Kaplan) and Lai Xu (ECE, Major advisor, Vince Calhoun) presented. We hope you came by to talk with our HHMI Scholars about their presentations. At 10:35 in Castetter Hall Rm 100, Ziya presented a talk on, "An Analytic Study of Molecular Motion in Cell Membranes." Helen presented her poster, #27, on "People as Islands: The Theory of Island Biogeography and Parasitic Infections across Human Populations." Lai's poster #30 is on "Source Based Morphometry Applied to Structural MRI Images to Identify Gray Matter and White Matter Concentration and Ratio Differences in Schizophrenia Versus Controls." Great job to each of our presenters. As a reminder, HHMI Scholar at UNM PIBBS, Erik Erhardt (Statistics, major advisor Ed Bedrick) won best poster last year. Here's hoping that PiBBs HHMI Scholars take home honors again this year! More on Biology Research Day can be found at:
