Unal Sakoglu was born in Kastamonu, Turkiye. He received the B.S. degree in Electrical-Electronics Engineering from Bilkent Universitesi, Ankara, Turkiye in 2000, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, in 2002 and 2006, respectively. During his graduate studies, he developed adaptive signal/image processing algorithms for improvement of spectral utilization and nonuniformity-noise reduction for infrared focal-plane array sensors. After his Ph.D, he worked for two years as a post-doctoral researcher at UNM's Biomedical Research and Integrative NeuroImaging (BRaIN) Center, where he applied signal/image processing and analysis techniques on MRI data to extract functional information such as perfusion, permeability and BOLD fMRI. He joined Dr. Calhoun's MIALAB in May 2008, where he is currently working as a post-doctoral researcher on blind and semi-blind source separation and classification of fMRI data.
